Servings: 8 Difficulty: Medium

Cooking time: 15 minutes Preparation time: 20 minutes Total time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients

Chocolate Filling:

100 g milk chocolate

50 g dark chocolate

50 g white chocolate

100 g sweetened condensed milk

1 tsp vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

Kataifi Coating:

200 g kataifi dough (shredded phyllo dough)

50 g unsalted butter, melted

2 tbsp sugar (optional, for a sweeter crust)

Instructions

Prepare the Chocolate Filling

Step 1: In a heatproof bowl, melt the milk, dark, and white chocolates together. You can use a double boiler or microwave the chocolate in short bursts, stirring after each interval until fully melted.

Step 2: Once melted, stir in the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Prepare the Kataifi Filling

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2: Gently separate the kataifi dough strands and place them in a large bowl. Drizzle the melted butter over the dough and toss it well to coat the strands evenly.

Step 3: If you want a sweeter filling, sprinkle the sugar over the buttered kataifi and mix until evenly distributed.

Step 4: Spread the kataifi dough in an even layer on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Be sure to check frequently to avoid burning. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool.

Assemble the Chocolate Balls

Step 1: Once the kataifi has cooled, break it into small pieces. Take a small amount of the kataifi and form it into small clumps.

Step 2: Scoop out a portion of the chocolate filling and flatten it slightly in the palm of your hand.

Step 3: Place a small clump of the kataifi in the center of the chocolate and carefully seal the chocolate around the kataifi, forming a ball. Repeat this for all the chocolate balls.

Step 4: Place the formed chocolate balls on a parchment-lined tray and refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Serve and Enjoy!

Useful tips

  • If the chocolate mixture is too sticky to handle, lightly grease your hands with butter or oil.

  • You can add a little more sugar to the kataifi filling for extra sweetness if you like.

  • Store the chocolate balls in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
