Wrong day...

Austeja Simaityte

Have you ever just had one of those days? The days where everything seems like it's going wrong? Well, this was my competition day...

It all started out well, getting my makeup and hair done and driving to Kaunas, until I had to do a warm-up for my performance...

As I leaned forward to get my jumping rope, a sharp pain went through my hip. At first, I thought it would go away, but that was not true, as it turned out to be the last drop needed for muscle inflammation to form.

While it hurt a lot and I already had muscle inflammation and pain in other parts of my legs, I just ignored it and pushed through. But that came with a cost, as I fell a few times during my performance, and the pain even sharpened.

After the performance, I tried stretching and massaging the muscles that hurt, though the pain didn't go away. Even now, with the help of my physician, I'm working on these problems.

In the end, I placed 5th, even though I could have easily been 1st if only the pain hadn't started.

But this competition has taught me that I need to take better care of my body and be aware of the boundaries that my physical strength can take.
