A New Goal

Austeja Simaityte

While I’ve always enjoyed staying active, I’ve never trained for something as big as a marathon—until now. With the Taupō Marathon coming up in August, I’ve set a new goal for myself, and the journey has officially begun.

Training for a marathon is completely different from anything I’ve done before. It’s not just about running long distances; it’s about building endurance, staying consistent, and pushing past mental and physical limits. Some days feel great, and I run farther than expected, while others are more challenging, making every step feel like a battle. But that’s what makes it exciting.

One of the best parts so far has been seeing my progress. Each run gets a little easier, and I can feel my stamina improving. I’ve also been focusing on recovery, stretching, and balancing my training so I don’t overdo it too soon.

Even though there’s still a long way to go, I’m excited to see how much I can improve before race day. Right now, I’m just focusing on one step at a time—literally.
